Project team

Gemini Lighting Solutions (GLS) delivered a lighting control upgrade at Portland Building in Crawley, replacing an obsolete ALC system with a modern Dynalite solution. The project focused on improving reliability, simplifying control, and extending the lifespan of the building’s existing infrastructure.
By upgrading to Dynalite while retaining key elements of the original system, GLS provided a cost-effective solution that enhanced both performance and usability across the office environment.

Products

DDBC320 – DALI control modules (3 DALI universes, up to 64 nodes and 16 inputs per universe)
PDEG Gateway & DDNP1501 Power Supply – Area control unit for Ethernet spine and PC front end
DUS360CR – Recessed ceiling sensors for occupancy and daylight detection
PDTS – Colour touchscreen interface

System features

The objective was to transition from a failing, unsupported ALC system to a future-proof Dynalite platform with minimal disruption. To achieve this, GLS reused the existing BUS, spine, power, DALI network and switch lines, allowing for a seamless upgrade.

Lighting control is achieved through DALI, distributed via existing infrastructure using LCMs, combined with intelligent sensor integration. Presence, absence and daylight detection ensure lighting is responsive to occupancy and environmental conditions, improving both energy efficiency and user comfort.

A touchscreen interface was introduced at reception, providing simple manual override and scene-setting functionality for staff when required.
